Electrical Service Technician - Industrial & Mining Equipment
Itch Recruitment
Posted 16 days ago
This ain’t your average sparky job.
If your idea of “service work” involves power points and ceiling fans, you might want to sit this one out.
But if you’re a licensed NSW electrician who can hold your nerve in front of an 8MW motor or 11kV VSD—and your idea of fun is programming PLCs in the middle of a mine site—read on.
Here’s the deal:
Our client is a well-respected name in industrial automation and power systems. They don’t hire often—the last time was six years ago—and they invest heavily in the people they bring on. Right now, they’re looking for a gun Service Tech who can bring their A-game to complex, high-stakes industrial jobs.
What you’ll be doing:
- Site-based electrical servicing across mines, industrial plants, and processing sites
- Diagnosing and repairing large-scale equipment (think soft start motors, variable speed drives, liquid resistance starters, dissolved Gas Analysis in transformers)
- Working with tech: PLCs, PC-based control systems, schematics and software
- Bolting/unbolting gear, pulling things apart and putting them back together like a pro
- Travelling interstate and sometimes overseas (12–14 weeks away a year)
- Completing paperwork that doesn’t look like it was written by a spider with a pen
Must-haves:
- NSW Electrical Licence
- Experience working solo on industrial-scale equipment
- Confidence with schematics, fault-finding, and problem-solving
- Comfort around computers and PLCs (even if you’re still learning—training is on offer)
- Mechanical aptitude (you're no stranger to a spanner)
- A curious mind and a bit of a tech-nerd streak
- A sense of adventure (and probably a valid passport)
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in mining, heavy industry, or automation
- PLC programming skills
- Strong documentation and reporting habits
What’s in it for you?
- $120k base + $30k+ in OT = real earning potential of $170k+
- Company ute with full private use (no racking—room for the dog and the surfboard)
- Support and training to grow your skillset
- A company that doesn’t churn through staff (seriously, last hire was 6 years ago)
- A role that’ll challenge you, grow you, and get you out of the same four walls
- Future career progression and bonus structure

If you're the kind of electrician who'd rather troubleshoot a PLC on a mine site than install a fan in a granny flat, this is your sign.
