About the role
The primary role of the Environmental Compliance Officer is to play a crucial part in delivering environmental compliance regulatory services through education and enforcement to support a safe, healthy and accessible environment.
Reporting to the Development Compliance Team Leader, you will provide support to teams within and outside of the unit, by providing tree compliance and development enforcement as required. You will be required to use your discretion to carry out investigations into compliance issues, gather evidence and issue penalty notices accordingly whilst demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualifications.
Experience in a law enforcement role with a focus on regulatory compliance.
Ability to build strong relationships with the community and foster positive public relations to support environmental initiatives and compliance efforts within Council.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, and manage time efficiently to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines effectively
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions in both office and field settings.
Proficient in using computers and associated software applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare comprehensive reports, letters, and notices.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and deal with a number of tasks simultaneously.
Knowledge of environmental legislation and experience applying it in practical enforcement situations.
A commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles.
Valid NSW Class C Driver Licence.
Desirable Criteria
• A completed tertiary course in law enforcement procedures and methods.
• A completed course in gathering evidence, investigative procedures and methods
