ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs, this role is primarily responsible for providing technical and policy advocacy for the Communications Contracting Industry. This includes representing the Communications Industry position in various policy and technical contexts (e.g. Australian Standards, Government policy, training & licencing, etc.) and providing support, advice and updates to ACRS registrants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide policy and technical advice to ACRS, ACRS registrants and NECA members in a consistent manner and within acceptable timeframes
Manage member resources on MKB.
Conduct presentations and webinars, and attend NECA Roadshow events.
Prepare documents and articles to educate members in technical and safety legislation.
Promote the benefits of becoming an ACRS registrant through engagement and recruitment.
Represent ACRS in a number of committees and groups.
Provide training-to-your-door education sessions.
Participate in business improvement projects.
Ensure regular contact with ACRS Registrants, NECA members, non-members and other relevant stakeholders.
Provide a monthly report on individual case management as well as committee and group activity.
Strategic communications and engagement, including regular website content reviews and press releases.
Supporting the delivery of initiatives projects within the National Advocacy Team’s work program, including preparing and maintaining project delivery reporting and documentation.
Supporting the engagement process with external stakeholders in the gathering of requirements, and contributing to improved delivery of national advocacy services as required.
Supporting preparation of materials and event coordination function as required for initiatives, such as stakeholder information sessions, forums, conferences, webinars, dinners or others as required.
Producing content for a variety of channels include the website, events materials, social media and other communication platforms.
Researching and drafting content for government submissions in consultation with the Government Relations team as required.
Develop and coordinate the strategic technical policy, advocacy, and media direction for the ACRS to ensure the interests and needs of the Communications Contracting Industry are addressed.
Provide advice on progressing the organisation’s public affairs and government relations objectives on key policy issues.
Deep-dive policy analysis with complex systems, including system mapping, interpreting legislation and analysing statistics and evidence;
Presenting to registrants and external stakeholders on the policy activities and initiatives of the organisation.
Lead and deliver complex policy projects around the Communications industry
Develop constructive recommendations and policy positions to propose to governments to resolve issues faced by the Communications industry
Prepares, co-ordinates or supervises the preparation of high-quality submissions, briefing papers and other documentation on key policy issues
Draft documents to a high standard, explaining issues faced within the Communications industry
Tailor documents to respond to the context of different jurisdictions and audience
Other relevant duties as required.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a knowledgeable and driven professional with a strong background in electrical and communications standards—ideally with hands-on experience in the field. You’ll be confident in providing technical advice, shaping policy, and engaging with stakeholders across industry and government.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Knowledge of relevant electrical and data and telecommunications standards and regulations, including AS/NZS3000:2018 The Wiring Rules and AS/CA S009:2020 Installation Requirements for Customer Cabling
Experience in carrying out all types of electrical work, and data and telecommunications cabling work would be highly desirable
A current driver’s licence.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and consultation skills
Excellent computer, numerical and literacy skills
Skills in the analysis and interpretation of data and statistical information
Strong organisational and planning ability
Experience in working in a customer focused business environment requiring accuracy, initiative and problem-solving skills
Commitment to client focus, excellent client service skills, and proven ability to develop and influence client relationships
Ability to coordinate tasks, set priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
The ability to gauge the needs of members and to serve these needs with efficiency and accuracy
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Experience in use of Microsoft Office systems and software including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
