If so, you might be the person we are looking for to perform the role of Assistant Director Risk Management within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Regulatory Design (NPSRD) team.

The EL 1 Assistant Director Risk Management is responsible for driving the development and delivery of a range of risk management functions, including implementing and maintaining the future Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) risk framework and risk register.

You will be the responsible custodian of the ANNPSR’s risk framework and risk governance and provide an advisory role to support the Executive in understanding the future ANNPSR’s capability to manage risk.

You will steward systems of risk management and promote an open and proactive approach to risk that fosters collaboration, encourages debate and values independent views.

With excellent consultation skills, you will engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, using your self-starter mentality to exercise sound judgement, influence decisions, and set priorities to meet deadlines. As a proven problem solver, you will contribute to the development of operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Your curious mindset combined with your engaging, supportive and collaborative attitude will play a key role in enhancing the organisation's risk culture.

To be considered for this position you will have proven knowledge and experience in risk management functions and practices.

Due to the unique workplace context and sensitive work undertaken, candidates may be required to undergo additional suitability screening or assessments.

Whilst this position has been advertised through Department of Defence, in line with the announcement made by the Australian Government on 14 Mar 23, this position will move to a new Statutory Agency with an effective date yet to be confirmed.

As an EL 1 Assistant Director Risk Management you will be required to demonstrate a range of skills, however the specific competencies below are considered critical to success within the NPSRD team.

  • Analyse – Analyse information, probe for clarity, produce solutions, make judgements and think systematically.
  • Persuade and influence – Make and impact, gain agreement, negotiate, persuade, convince, promote ideas and manage conflict.
  • Formulate strategies and concepts – Work strategically, develop and set strategies and visions.
