Our client, a large complex Queensland Government Department, are currently seeking 2 x experienced Project Managers on a contract basis to oversee the accelerated design and approval pathways for projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-profile initiative that will directly impact Queensland's educational infrastructure.

The success candidates will play a critical role in managing the Planning Phase for key projects, working alongside key members of the Project Planning Team to ensure that these projects meet tight deadlines and government expectations. The project requirements are aimed at providing 2 to 3 concept design options for each, with the goal of confirming a preferred option to support the final briefing and key project deliverables.

This role reports to the Project Director, Project Planning and will be instrumental in supporting these fast-tracked projects.

Role Overview

(Project Manager) will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of preliminary concept design options for key projects. This includes managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring that the projects progress smoothly through the design and approval stages.

The role will be closely integrated with the Project Planning Team, working alongside the Principal Planning Officer (accountable for scoping and delivering the Facilities Brief) and the Architect (contracted for design support) to facilitate the briefing process and ensure that the scope and expectations of the projects are clearly understood and managed.

Key Responsibilities

1 - Project Delivery Management

Key Responsibilities

1 - Project Delivery Management

  • Lead the projects through the accelerated design and approval pathways, ensuring the delivery of approximately 2 to 3 concept design options for each project within the designated timelines.
  • Work closely with the Principal Planning Officer and Principal Project Coordinator (Architect) to manage the preliminary concept design options and facilities briefing, ensuring the project's objectives are met.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, managing project risks and issues to ensure successful delivery within scope, time, and budget.
  • Manage Preliminary Design Proposal (PDP) activities and deliverables, if required.

2 - Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Coordinate with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Project Planning Team and school and regional representatives, to ensure alignment and manage expectations.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings, provide status updates, and ensure clear and timely communication with all stakeholders regarding the project's progress and challenges.

3 - Design & Approval Pathway Support (including MID)

  • Support the Architect and Principal Planning Officer in the scoping, design, and briefing process, ensuring that concept design options are aligned with project requirements and government expectations.
  • Support early activities for pre-lodgement and commencement of the Ministerial Infrastructure Designations (MID), if required, and manage procurement and engage activities for required consultants.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, Queensland Government standards, and regulations throughout the design and approval stages.

4 - Resource & Time Management

  • Manage the allocation of resources (personnel, time, and budget) to ensure the efficient execution of the project within the fast-tracked timeline.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, ensuring that milestones are achieved and project deliverables are met on time.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive project program/schedule (Microsoft Project or similar), regularly updating it to track key milestones and activities, ensuring it is part of regular reporting.

Key Requirements

  • Experience in project management within the public sector, ideally with a focus on infrastructure construction projects.
  • Proven ability to manage fast-paced, high-pressure projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of the design process and familiarity with key planning and design phase activities and deliverables.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder engagement.
  • Qualifications in Project Management or related field (preferred).
