About the role

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter with expertise in locomotive bogies to join our team. As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the assembly, maintenance, and repair of locomotive bogies, ensuring their optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical fitting tasks on locomotive bogies, including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and repairs.
• Conduct inspections to identify faults, malfunctions, or areas requiring maintenance.
• Carry out repairs and replacements of components, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and functionality.
• Utilize hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring instruments, to perform accurate and precise fitting tasks.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including documentation of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Assist in the training and mentoring of junior mechanical fitters, sharing your knowledge and expertise.

About you

• Ability to read, comprehend and apply technical drawings.
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
• High level of problem solving skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability and willingness to further your knowledge and skills with additional training.
• High level record keeping ability.
• Ability to work shifts and overtime as required.

Skills and experience

• Trade qualifications (Mechanical or suitable related disciplines).
• Previous experience working within a heavy maintenance/ asset management environment preferred but not essential.
• Perform mechanical fitting tasks on locomotive combos and bogies, including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and repairs.
• Conduct inspections to identify faults, malfunctions, or areas requiring maintenance
• Carry out repairs and replacements of components, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and functionality.
• Utilize hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring instruments, to perform accurate and precise fitting tasks.
