Auburn South Primary School is looking to appoint an experienced School Psychologist to work closely with students, parents, and staff to provide psychological support, assessments, and interventions that foster student well-being.

We offer a collaborative and supportive work environment in an internationally recognised IB PYP school.

Previous experience working with primary school aged students is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Enhancing mental health prevention and promotion activities

Providing early intervention service (including short-term counselling)

Coordinating supports for students with complex needs

The position is for a part time (0.6 FTE, 3 days a week - flexible days can be discussed) and fixed term position, commencing 22 April 2025 until 26 January 2027 to be worked school terms only.

Selection Criteria:

1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work co-operatively with teachers, education support staff, students, parents and professionals within a multi-disciplinary team environment.

2. Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, analyse the resulting data and identify individual students’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioural needs.

3. Proven experience in planning and implementing evidence-based interventions to support students affected by trauma, with learning difficulties, emotional challenges, or behavioural concerns.

4. Ability to provide counselling, develop and deliver social skills resilience programs to primary-age students.

5. Ability to support the school in implementing the Disability Inclusion reforms; including the Disability Inclusion Profile processes.

6. Experience in offering trauma-informed guidance and support to teachers and school staff in addressing classroom dynamics, student behaviour, and mental health challenges.

7. Capacity to work with families to provide advice, resources, and strategies for supporting their child’s development and emotional well-being at home.

Requirements:

Applicants must be qualified as a psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or counsellor of a prescribed class. Specifically:

o For Psychologists, applicants must hold full registration with AHPRA

o For Mental Health Nurses, applicants must hold full registration with AHPRA and hold a postgraduate qualification in mental health

o For Social Workers, applicants must be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers

o For Occupational Therapists applicants must hold full registration with AHPRA

o For Counsellors applicants must have completed a Bachelor or Master of Counselling and be a practising member of either the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)

Demonstrated direct counselling experience

A current Working with Children Check.

Strong understanding of child and adolescent psychology

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work collaboratively within a school environment

Desirable:

Previous experience working with school-aged students

For Psychology applicants, specialisation in educational and/or developmental psychology.

For Mental Health Nurse applicants, holding a Mental Health Nurse Credential and membership with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.

For Social Work applicants, membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and an Accredited Social Worker Trade Mark.

For Occupational Therapy applicants, a Better Access to Mental Health Endorsement.

For Counselling applicants, Level 3-4 registration (ACA) or a Registered Clinical Counsellor endorsement (PACFA).
