About the opportunity

A Senior Safety Analyst plays a pivotal role in driving data-informed decision-making to support strategic objectives and operational effectiveness within CASA. The role is responsible for delivering advanced data analysis, generating actionable insights, and contributing to projects that require complex problem-solving skills. Data Analysts leverage their expertise in data collection, processing, and statistical analysis to produce detailed reports that influence policy, improve operational efficiencies, and aid in organisational planning.

As a CS4 Senior Safety Analyst, this position operates with a high degree of autonomy, effectively resolving complex or sensitive issues and delivering high-quality outcomes that support CASA’s strategic priorities. The Senior Safety Analyst is responsible for providing comprehensive analysis and strategic recommendations that contribute to achieving CASA’s goals. This role demands a thorough understanding of data management practices, advanced analytics software, and relevant regulatory frameworks, along with the ability to communicate complex findings clearly and succinctly to diverse stakeholders.

The Senior Safety Analyst is responsible for the following deliverables, which represent an ongoing body of work

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and process data from multiple sources to perform detailed statistical analyses, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of information used in decision-making.
  • Insights and Reporting: Design and present reports, dashboards, and presentations, that translate complex data into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support Strategic Initiatives: Provide analytical support for organisational projects, by identifying trends, forecasting outcomes, and informing strategic decisions that align with CASA’s objectives.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess data needs, provide technical guidance, and facilitate data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Policy and Process Improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of policies, processes, and procedures related to data management and analysis, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform rigorous data validation and quality checks to maintain the integrity and reliability of data, promptly identifying and rectifying inconsistencies.
  • Research and Development: Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging analytical tools, and methodologies to enhance CASA’s analytical capabilities and effectiveness.
  • Planning: Actively contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic operational planning for longer term initiatives.
  • Comply with CASA’s Values and Code of Conduct directive, including maintaining a current declaration of any conflict of interest.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive health and safety culture at CASA, including supporting psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace, and participate in decisions that may affect my health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Model and promote workplace safety, equity, diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace.
  • Other duties as required.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate must demonstrate the following:

  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on critical thinking, pattern recognition, and expertise in data interpretation for actionable insights.
  • Technical proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SQL, R, Python, Matlab) and data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present complex data insights to varied audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance and compliance standards relevant to CASA’s operations.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills

Under section 8 of the, Civil Aviation Act 1988, CASA is a body corporate separate from the Commonwealth. CASA's primary function is to conduct the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australia and the operation of Australian aircraft overseas.
