Responsibilities

In this role, you will work closely with the research and development team to translate broad concepts into actionable tasks. You’ll investigate new designs, conduct engineering calculations, and use simulation tools to model advanced systems. Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure designs are scalable and manufacturable.
• Undertake engineering calculations and design analysis.
• Use in-house simulation tools to model detectors and electron-ion optics.
• Develop engineering scopes and specification documents for projects.
• Document designs including 3D modeling, manufacturing drawings, process specifications, DFMEA, and risk assessments.
• Question the norm to drive continuous improvement of equipment, products, and processes.
• Collaborate effectively within a team environment, working with engineers, researchers, and quality teams.
• Develop product and site support literature.

A typical day as a Mechanical Engineer will involve working on new prototypes and collaborating with the R&D team to ensure your designs are not only innovative but also feasible for production. You’ll be utilizing your engineering expertise to perform calculations, build and test prototypes, and help refine designs to ensure they meet both technical and manufacturability requirements. You will also be responsible for documenting and reporting your work, all while driving continuous improvement.

Your Profile

Our client is eager to consider those that meet the following criteria:

• Full working rights (Australian citizenship or permanent residency)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering field.
• Strong understanding of value management, project management, and business practices.
• Innovative thinking in developing new prototypes.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling (advantageous).
• Sound understanding of product development processes.
• Ability to validate design via hand calculations and prototype testing.
• Hands-on experience with prototype production and field testing.
• Understanding of drawing standards and GDT tolerancing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Positive, proactive mindset with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the business.
