Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in structural steel fabrication to join our team. This full time position is based at their head office and fabrication workshop located at 134-140 Fairbairn Road, Sunshine West in Victoria.

Here’s what you will be doing:

Provide expertise to the Production team regarding the design and optimisation of mechanical systems, steel components, and machinery used in fabrication of structural steel.

Provide expertise to the Maintenance team regarding maintenance of plant buildings and equipment, coordinating new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules.

Develop specifications for manufacturing, including selecting materials, determining equipment needs, and optimizing plant layout and material flow.

Manage project labour and coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment to ensure efficient workflow.

Establish and enforce standards for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection, and maintenance in compliance with engineering principles and safety regulations.

Inspect plant facilities and equipment to ensure optimal performance and identify areas for improvement.

Provide expertise in fabrication, welding, and steel structure assembly to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Develop and review engineering drawings and specifications for manufacturing.

Collaborate with architects, project managers, and construction teams to ensure project success.

Implement quality control measures to maintain high manufacturing standards.

Optimize fabrication processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize material use.

Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in manufacturing and installation.

Ensure compliance with Australian Standards (AS/NZS), building codes, and other industry regulations.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to innovations in steel fabrication techniques.

Here’s what you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on structural steel fabrication and manufacturing optimization.

Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla, or similar programs.

Strong knowledge of steel fabrication techniques, welding methods, and mechanical design principles.

Familiarity with Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 1554, AS 4100) and building codes.

Experience in plant maintenance, equipment management, and material flow optimization.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Professional Engineering (PE) accreditation with Engineers Australia.
