The Opportunity
MapAI, a leader in Geospatial and Generative AI (GenAI) technologies, is transforming how spatial data is utilized to tackle complex commercial challenges. Our flagship GenAI tool enables users to interact with location data in dynamic ways. We're expanding our team and seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the Urban Co-Pilot Project—a transformative, three-year initiative aimed at advancing urban development using cutting-edge geospatial tech and GenAI solutions.
This project is a collaboration with University of NSW, PEXA, and Archistar, where your role will be pivotal in integrating research outcomes into real-world urban solutions and advancing innovations toward commercialization. The Project Manager will oversee the project’s full lifecycle, ensuring milestones are met, stakeholder interests are balanced, and research is effectively translated into practical outcomes. The time fraction is 50%, on Urban Copilot, with the remaining time spent on MapAI projects. MapAI works with several key clients across Australia, the Project Manager will contribute to other high-priority projects within the company as required.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager will have a dynamic role involving project oversight, team coordination, stakeholder engagement, and communication across both technical and non-technical audiences. Key responsibilities include:
Project Management and Delivery
Lead the Urban Co-Pilot project to deliver outcomes within scope, on time, and within budget.
Establish clear communication channels with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and team members.
Coordinate the development of detailed project plans, including milestones, deliverables, and risk management strategies.
Track project progress, ensuring that key objectives are met and any issues are addressed promptly.
Manage project documentation, including reports, user manuals, and presentations.
Facilitate project meetings, document decisions, and track actions to ensure accountability and project success.
Stakeholder and Team Engagement
Manage relationships with stakeholders (Archistar, PEXA, UNSW).
Balance diverse stakeholder interests to keep the project aligned with strategic goals.
Ensure alignment between internal teams and project goals, fostering collaboration and transparency.
Communicate project status clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Reporting and Documentation
Prepare regular progress reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders, as well as for the Commonwealth Government.
Document and present key project outcomes, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and client expectations.
Innovation and Industry Engagement
Keep abreast of trends in urban planning, geospatial technology, and AI to ensure the project leverages cutting-edge methodologies.
Contribute to MapAI’s thought leadership in the urban planning and technology sectors through engagement with industry events and publications.
What we're looking for
3+ years of experience in project management, ideally in the tech or geospatial sectors.
Strong understanding of property, urban planning, and a genuine interest in Generative AI technologies.
Expertise with Agile and/or Waterfall project management methodologies.
Ability to manage commercial product development from diverse stakeholder inputs.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Relevant degree (e.g., project management, spatial science, engineering, urban planning, etc.).
The following would enhance your ability to perform in this role and make you a more attractive candidate:
PM certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum, SAFE).
Experience with spatial data management or geospatial analytics.
Understanding of Generative AI and related technologies.
Experience managing applied research initiatives.
Proven success in stakeholder relationship-building and engagement.
Time Fraction & Work Flexibility:
Full-time role with flexibility for part-time options.
The position is permanent and based in Sydney, but remote work arrangements are available.
