Greyhound Racing SA Limited (GRSA) is the controlling body of greyhound racing in South Australia, conducting, regulating, and promoting the sport from our headquarters at Angle Park. GRSA’s primary responsibilities are to ensure the welfare of the industry’s greyhounds and the responsible and ethical regulation of approximately 700 licenced industry participants and race meeting activities at its five racetracks – Angle Park, Gawler, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier and Virginia – through the effective enforcement of local and national rules and compliance policies.
GRSA is seeking a committed and personable individual to join our animal welfare compliance team, based at Angle Park. This position will assist in ensuring compliance with the GRSA animal welfare policy, including standards for accommodation, management, and care of greyhounds across the industry, together with improving animal welfare education amongst licenced industry participants.
Key responsibilities include:
Be part of a team that conducts kennel and property inspections to ensure industry and legislative welfare requirements are met, particularly with regard to greyhound health, well-being and traceability.
Engage in regular compliance follow ups and provide ongoing guidance to industry participants to correct non-complaint welfare.
Actively respond to and support investigations of reported welfare concerns.
Liaise with key external stakeholders as required.
Support education regarding welfare and care obligation of licenced persons.
Respond and coordinate responses to reports received in relation to possible animal welfare issues and concerns.
Maintain animal welfare documentation and databases by recording retirements, euthanasia, deceased and location changes within the industry to optimise greyhound population traceability.
Support administration of welfare funding support schemes such as Track Injury Rebate, Sterilisation and other retirement ready support.
Perform out of competition swabs; urine swab or hair sampling, and swab interviews, as requested by stewards.
Working alongside Integrity with risk assessments, investigations and penalties as required.
To be considered for this role you will preferably have:
Previous experience in a racing, animal welfare or compliance driven setting.
Demonstrated understanding of quality, compliance, and regulatory processes.
Understanding of welfare’s role in supporting the greyhound racing industry.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
A solution-focused mindset and the ability to make considered decisions.
Ability to work calmly in emotive and challenging environments.
Sound MS Office skills.
A current Police clearance completed within the past three months.
A valid Australian driver’s licence (required).
A level of medical and physical fitness sufficient to be able to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis and may have a requirement for intrastate travel and some out of normal working hours availability including weekends.
