The Pathology Assistant in the Biochemistry Unit is responsible for performing a broad range of simple to complex pre-analytical procedures consistently and accurately and maintaining competence in the operational aspects of the Biochemistry Unit.
There may be an expectation in future for the you to work in other areas within Chemical Pathology.
What you'll do
- Perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining focus and competence in the various areas within the work unit. Cross-training in other areas of the Chemical Pathology Laboratory may be required.
- Maintain competence in all duties designated to the position including sample management, computer data entry, cleaning and stock control of the laboratory, preparation of reagents.
- Demonstrate independent judgement and responsibility in organising and prioritising workloads.
- Participate in all aspects of quality improvement within the Department including maintaining relevant documentation, identifying opportunities for improvement and maintaining high levels of relevant skills.
About you
We are searching for someone with:
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pathology pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, storage, retrieval of specimens etc, in a large and complex core laboratory unit.
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
