Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Senior Scientific/Technical Officer (Core Pathologies) to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Health.
The Senior Scientific/Technical Officer (Core Pathologies) provides technical expertise within a highly professional technical team in support of the Faculty’s academic endeavours. The role is responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of laboratory facilities and specialist equipment. The role requires significant discipline specific knowledge to engage with and provide high quality technical support to academics and students within the Medical Laboratory Science disciplines.

The Faculty of Health is led by the Executive Dean and the Executive Management Team comprising the Deputy Dean, Heads of Schools, and other senior faculty staff. The proximity of the Kelvin Grove campus to hospital facilities at Herston provides the faculty with a distinct competitive advantage and a renowned precinct that offers transformative education, aligned biomedical research and industry engagement. Technical services is a highly professional team providing specialist technical expertise to support teaching and research across all schools within the Faculty. The team are responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of teaching and research facilities and specialist equipment across both campuses..
What you need to succeed
1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor degree in related field; an Associate Diploma level qualification with at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, or training.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the Medical Laboratory Science discipline. Experience in more than one or the following disciplines, including but not limited to: Clinical Immunology, Transfusion, Haematology, Histopathology and Cytology.
3. Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively connect and collaborate with colleagues and work in teams.
4. Demonstrated ability to embrace and participate in change and to effectively organise and prioritise work in order to meet deadlines and competing priorities, without compromising quality in a technical environment.
5. Well-developed problem solving skills including the ability to contribute to continuous improvement, and apply specialist knowledge and skills in the identification and resolution of work issues.
6. Demonstrated understanding of theoretical aspects and experience in the practical application of relevant scientific/technical techniques, as well as the use of the specialised laboratory equipment associated with these techniques, where relevant.
OR
Demonstrated specialist understanding of theoretical aspects and experience in the practical application of Pharmaceutical techniques, as well as the use of specialised pharmacy equipment.
7. Demonstrated ability to accurately review and interpret instructions of a conceptual nature; to relate relevant knowledge to provide maintenance and repairs to equipment, and to produce technical reports, communications and documentation to a high standard.
