About the Opportunity:
John Paul College is seeking an experienced and qualified Student Counsellor to join our Primary School welfare team on a 12-month maternity leave contract.
This full-time, term-time position requiring five days per week during the College terms, plus three additional weeks per year.
As a Primary School Counsellor at John Paul College, you will play a vital role in fostering student wellbeing through a proactive and supportive approach. You will work collaboratively with students, teachers, and the academic welfare and counselling teams to promote a positive and inclusive school environment.

As a Primary School Counsellor at John Paul College, you will:
Provide personal counselling to students, addressing emotional and social needs.
Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding concerns and progress.
Be available by appointment to discuss student progress with parents.
Support colleagues in their efforts to enhance student wellbeing.
Model the College values of Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence.
Conduct individual and group counselling sessions.
Plan and provide professional development for school staff when required.
Offer professional insight and advice to College leadership and academic staff.
Maintain confidentiality within the parameters of duty of care and school policies.
Balance professional and administrative standards in accordance with College policies.
About You:
Our ideal candidate will have:
A master’s degree in counselling.
At least two years of experience in a school-based setting.
The ability to create and support inclusive learning environments that foster positive relationships.
Strong communication skills to engage effectively with staff, students, and parents.
A commitment to upholding the vision and values of John Paul College.
A current Counselling Registration.
A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Working Conditions:
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm, with a 40-minute unpaid meal break each day, totaling 7.6 hours per day. However, we may require the successful candidate to demonstrate flexibility in supporting unexpected situations and emergencies as they arise.
Fortnightly Hours: The contracted hours will be 76 hours per fortnight, during term time plus three additional weeks per annum. The week before Term 1 is essential, with the other additional weeks to be scheduled as required and agreed upon with the College.
