Why Breakaway Toowoomba Inc.?

Breakaway Toowoomba has been a cornerstone of the Toowoomba community for over 36 years, dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities. From our beginnings as a family-focused organisation offering respite for children, we have grown into a leading provider of independent living, community participation, in-home support, social groups, and NDIS access support for people of all ages.
With over 140 local staff, our commitment to person-centred care, innovation, and community integration has made us a trusted leader in the disability sector. As we continue to invest in our people and infrastructure, we are focused on delivering better outcomes for clients and being an employer of choice in our community.

Be Part of Something Bigger: The Role

As our HR Coordinator, you will lead a small team focused on providing practical generalist Human Resources support and guidance across the organisation. This includes coordinating and overseeing HR systems, administration, investigations, recruitment, selection, onboarding and induction, performance management, HR compliance, communication and training.

This role blends hands-on leadership with system improvement, and you will work closely with the HR Officer, management team, and external consultants to build a strong, compliant, and values-driven HR function that supports Breakaway’s vision and mission.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes for office and support staff
  • Maintain and enhance HR systems and processes, supported by the HR Officer and HR consultant
  • Provide practical advice on awards, compliance, policies, and performance matters
  • Partner with managers to support staff supervision, appraisals, and performance development
  • Manage and support workplace investigations, grievances, and disciplinary processes
  • Monitor HR compliance in line with the NDIS, Awards, legislation and regulations
  • Deliver internal communications, HR training, and workforce planning initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and reporting systems.

What You Bring to the Table:

You are a capable HR practitioner with a professional ethos of respect, patience, impartiality, prudence, and confidentiality. Furthermore, you have excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, people-focused environment. You are ready to make a positive difference in the lives of both staff and clients.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in management or a similar role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices, legislation, and compliance
  • Strong communication and coaching skills with the ability to advise and influence
  • Experience using HR software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Current Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s licence.

What Sets Us Apart:

  • Competitive Pay & Benefits – including salary packaging options and staff health insurance discounts
  • Growth & Learning – access to training and opportunities to develop your career
  • Supportive Culture – join a collaborative, values-driven team committed to community care
  • Work-Life Balance – with access to our Employee Assistance Program and supportive policies.
