Who is VAGO?
The Victorian Auditor General's Office (VAGO) is a critical part of Victoria's integrity system. Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the State Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies. To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 530 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. Such a broad range of portfolios allows our people to gain unrivalled audit experience working throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.

We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Parliamentary Reports and Services and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services.
What's the role?
The Senior Manager, Strategic Communications leads and manages strategic communications at VAGO, ensuring initiatives align with organisational goals and are delivered effectively. Reporting to the Director, Strategy, Governance and Risk, they oversee key projects, develop audience-focused communication products, drive external engagement strategies and respond to media inquiries. The role also involves providing strategic input and coordination for major events and high-profile conferences, ensuring alignment with VAGO's objectives. Collaborating across teams, they ensure consistent messaging and continuous improvement in both external and internal communications.
Who we're looking for
An experienced communications professional with a strong ability to develop high-quality, audience-focused content using best-practice techniques. Adept at managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with the judgement to navigate risks and opportunities while delivering innovative communication solutions. Exceptional communication skills ensure clarity across all messaging, while strong stakeholder management fosters trust, collaboration, and engagement at all levels. A proactive and adaptable leader who champions resilience, flexibility, and continuous improvement, contributing to a culture of excellence in strategic communications will excel in this environment.
Qualifications
- Desirable tertiary qualifications in public relations and communication, or equivalent, and/or experience in a government communication role.
