Location: Anywhere in the Kimberley, WA (must be able to travel to extensively throughout the Kimberley).
Employment Type: Full Time - 38 hours per week
Employment Category: Fixed Term – 12 months with the possibility of extension
Remuneration: $120,000 - $125,000 per annum + superannuation + salary sacrifice benefits

Non-Monetary Remuneration: Rental subsidy, motor vehicle allowance, mobile phone and relocation assistance.

The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) is currently seeking a passionate and experienced Women’s Program Coordinator to lead a region-wide program that empowers Aboriginal women to connect with and celebrate their language, law, and culture. Based in the Kimberley, you’ll drive culturally-based healing, leadership, and empowerment initiatives in alignment with the Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Strategic Plan.

You’ll work closely with Elders, cultural leaders, community organisations, and funding partners to deliver powerful on-Country experiences, support community-led solutions, and promote intergenerational cultural knowledge sharing.

The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) is the Kimberley Region’s Peak Indigenous Law and Culture organisation, operating under a strong cultural governance structure.

Incorporated in 1985 and based in Fitzroy Crossing, KALACC’s core purpose is to assist and promote the ceremonies, songs and dance of Kimberley Aboriginal people, to encourage and strengthen their social, cultural and legal values and ensure their traditions remain strong in contemporary Australian society.

WOMEN'S PROGRAM

The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) Women’s Program exists to empower, support, and strengthen Aboriginal women’s connection to their language, law, and culture. The program plays a critical role in ensuring that every Aboriginal woman in the Kimberley region can practise, maintain, teach, and celebrate their cultural knowledge while actively passing it on to future generations.

This role is aligned with the Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Strategic Plan for Language, Law, and Culture (KAWSP), which outlines community-driven priorities and actions to protect and promote cultural identity and wellbeing.

The Women’s Project Coordinator will be responsible for expanding the reach of the KALACC Women’s Program, coordinating activities, developing partnerships, and supporting Aboriginal women in leadership, healing, and empowerment.

Key Program Elements:

Cultural Engagement & Leadership Development – Organising on-country women’s camps, healing sessions, knowledge-sharing activities, and cultural revitalization initiatives.

Women’s Support & Social Wellbeing – Providing mentorship, social and emotional wellbeing support, and strengthening intergenerational knowledge transfer.

Community Empowerment & Advocacy – Supporting Aboriginal women to develop local solutions to community issues, engage in culturally-led governance, and advocate for women’s rights and recognition.

Capacity Building & Economic Development – Expanding opportunities in bush medicine, cultural arts, two-way learning, and leadership training.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

Strong strategic and project management skills, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of community-based programs and activities.

Strong leadership skills, with experience managing staff and community-led projects.

Experience in stakeholder engagement, including partnerships with government agencies, service providers, and Aboriginal organisations.

Experience engaging effectively with Aboriginal communities in a culturally safe and appropriate manner, ensuring adherence to cultural protocols and governance structures.

Ability to secure funding, write grant applications, and manage program budgets

Excellent communication, report writing, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage program reporting and compliance requirements.

Effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Ability to work autonomously and within a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to maintain program records.

Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Kimberley and work flexible hours, including overnight camps, evenings and weekends as needed.

Ideally, in addition to be above, we are looking for someone who:

Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community.

Has a relevant qualifications in Community Services, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Mental Health, or related fields.

Has experience in bush medicine, cultural arts, or Indigenous enterprise development.

Is familiar with government funding programs (e.g., Closing the Gap, Indigenous Advancement Strategy).

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” class driver’s licence, and be required to submit a national police clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment.
