Position Overview:

We are seeking an exceptional Lab Technician to join our team, contributing to the advancement of a revolutionary clean hydrogen technology and storage solution. This is a unique opportunity to support cutting-edge research and play a vital role in the fight against climate change. The Lab Technician role is a key position within the organisation, supporting the research and development efforts aimed at enhancing the performance and scalability of our breakthrough hydrogen storage technology.

Based at the Carbon280 Lab in Kwinana, this role provides hands-on technical assistance in laboratory operations, ensuring accurate execution of experiments, proper maintenance of equipment, and adherence to safety standards. Working closely with the Research Scientist, you will play an essential part in the innovation and commercialisation of this game-changing technology. Up to 1 day per week will be working from home on tasks that can be completed remotely.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Lab Technician, you will:

• Assist in experiment preparation, setup, execution, and data collection under the direction of the Research Scientist.

• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure that all instruments are calibrated and operational.

• Prepare and manage chemical samples for analysis and experimentation.

• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, ensuring repeatability and reproducibility of experiments.

• Conduct routine laboratory tests and troubleshoot issues that arise during experiments.

• Ensure a safe and compliant lab environment, following best practices for handling chemicals and laboratory safety protocols.

• Support inventory management of lab supplies, ordering materials as needed.

• Assist in the design and setup of new laboratory equipment and workflows.

Required experience:

− Certificate IV or diploma in Laboratory Techniques.

− Hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in materials science, physical chemistry, or energy storage.

− Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, chemical handling, and equipment maintenance.

− Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

− Strong commitment to health, safety, and maintaining a clean laboratory environment.

− Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research team.

− Effective communication skills, able to report results and troubleshoot effectively.

− Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

− Must have Australian Driving licence.

Desirable experience:

− Experience with magnesium or metal hydrides.

− Experience with glovebox use.

− Familiarity with hydrogen storage materials and processes.

− Experience with high-temperature lab reactors.

− Proficiency in LabVIEW or other laboratory data acquisition software.

− Experience in kinetic analysis of multiphase reactions.
