Position Description
Position Title: Community Occupational Therapist
Location: Greater Melbourne Metropolitan Region
Employment Type: Casual
Reports to: Clinical Director/ Senior Occupational Therapist
Position Overview:
The Community Occupational Therapist provides client-centered, evidence-based therapy services within the client’s home, school, or other community settings. The role focuses on enhancing clients’ independence and functional capacity in daily activities, routines, and environments, particularly under NDIS and similar funding frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Services
Conduct comprehensive functional assessments and goal-setting sessions.
Deliver tailored therapy interventions focusing on activities of daily living (ADLs), sensory processing, fine/gross motor skills, and equipment prescription.
Develop and review therapy programs in collaboration with clients, families, and support teams.
Complete reports including NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments and assistive technology justification.
2. Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with family members, carers, support coordinators, educators, and other healthcare professionals.
Provide guidance on environmental modifications, assistive technologies, and home safety.
3. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and timely clinical notes and progress reports.
Comply with NDIS Practice Standards, privacy legislation, and internal policies.
4. Teamwork & Development
Participate in team meetings and clinical supervision.
Contribute to internal training and service development.
Essential Criteria:
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
AHPRA Registration
Minimum 1 year experience in community or paediatric OT (new grads considered with strong clinical placement background)
Current Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
National Police Check & NDIS Worker Screening Check
Excellent communication and time-management skills
Desirable:
Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse clients
Knowledge of NDIS processes and documentation requirements
Training in sensory integration, functional assessment tools, or early intervention strategies
