Assistant Accountant

Company Background:

Cain Trading Pty Ltd is a company established in 2021 that primarily deals in 3rd party warehousing and distribution for clients.

Cain Trading started off effectively as a sub contractor providing transport services to the Logistics industry but quickly grew through long term relationships to provide warehousing and distribution.

Cain Trading has established a market niche providing tailored solutions for non-standard requirements and has provided long term and temporary warehousing and distribution solutions in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

In addition to warehousing and distribution for clients, Cain Trading also buys and sells transport equipment such as trucks and trailers.

Cain Trading has recently established a repairs and maintenance workshop for its own purchases but is now also providing services to external clientele.

The growth over the last 4 years has meant there is now a need to increase the administrative support for the business.

Having established Xero as its preferred accounting software package we now seek a suitably qualified and experienced assistant accountant looking for permanent part time work.

With a lot of daily and weekly tasks to be performed, this position will initially be 3 days equivalent full time with the possibility of increasing as the business growth increases. For the avoidance of doubt this role equates to 24hours per week. For the right person this can be spread over 3, 4 or 5 days but this position is to be a 0.6 per week position and will be paid as a weekly salary pro rata to a 5 day a week salary.

Benefits such as annual leave and sick leave will accrue at 0.6 of a full time salary, therefore 12 days annual leave and 5 days sick leave per annum.

Superannuation will accrue at the prescribed rate on the agreed salary. Public holidays falling on the agreed work days will be paid.

This role is designed for someone who is passionate about making a difference but understanding that the business is and will continue to be a small family business that provides opportunities and flexibility to meet the day to day demands on family and business.

We anticipate that the successful person will have a range of skills, most of which are captured below but will also clearly understand that at times they need to be flexible and get their hands dirty in helping the business out wherever is needed, in return you will always have access to training to ensure your skills and personal confidence will be there whilst performing your day to day tasks.

Salary for the right person will be negotiated but a range of a full time salary is provided and to be taken as a guide as the successful applicant will be paid pro rata based on hours worked.

The following is not an exhaustive list of expected skills and responsibilities, this list will be confirmed with the successful candidate to identify any skill gaps to allow for a training program.

Clearly experience in Xero or such accounting systems will be well respected but attitude, accounting and life experience and desire to be part of this small team is critical.

Key Skills & Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping & Financial Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate financial records.

Process and record financial transactions.

Update and reconcile financial ledgers.

Assist with general ledger maintenance.

Invoice Processing & Accounts Payable/Receivable:

Process invoices accurately and efficiently.

Assist with accounts payable and receivable duties.

Create payment files for approval

Verify and reconcile payments.

Financial Statement Preparation & Reporting:

Assist with the preparation of financial statements driven by Xero.

Prepare reports and statements as scheduled.

Verify financial statements, ledgers, and accounts.

Preparation and maintenance of owned and leased asset depreciation schedules

Bank Reconciliation:

Reconcile bank statements and accounts.

Identify and resolve discrepancies.

Other Administrative & Clerical Tasks:

Maintain and organize financial files and records.

Provide general administrative support to the accounting department and external accountant as and when required

Assist with data entry and other tasks as needed.

Preparation of weekly payroll through Xero, distribution of payslips and preparation of quarterly superannuation returns

Compliance & Accuracy:

Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ensure processing to comply with BAS and superannuation reporting and payment requirements

Other Duties:

Office supplies / stationery all Trading operations

Support warehousing administrative requirements as needed.

Software Proficiency:

High proficiency in relevant accounting software Xero.

Proficiency and understanding of Microsoft Office software, mainly word and Excel.

You will be:

Results orientated, highly motivated, highly organized and detail-oriented with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, seeking to leverage strong bookkeeping and financial record-keeping skills to contribute to the success of a small family team.
