Overview
The position is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, customer-focused, and comprehensive technical support services to Academic Staff, Researchers and Students. Contribution to the continuous improvement and growth of the school through high-performance, effective management of the school’s specialist technical facilities, teaching spaces, resources and equipment, and compliance with all relevant legislation.
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry Personal Excellence, and Courage.
Accountabilities
Under the broad direction of the School, support, manage and coordinate the daily operations of specialist technical facilities, teaching spaces, resources and equipment complying with the relevant legislation and policies, including Work Health Safety (WHS), and aligned to strategic and operational objectives to provide a customer-focused and comprehensive service to Academics, Researchers and Students. Maximise teaching, learning and research opportunities and optimise use of valuable resources. Provide supervision to students at a specialised discipline level. Support the technical team in the specialised discipline projects to ensure that teaching and research activities are effectively supported, and opportunities maximised by the attending the related tasks, including:
- Providing expert technical advice to academic staff and students and work closely with other members of the team on developing, designing, constructing/manufacturing, and testing complex and specialised equipment, structural systems, and experiments to meet the required specifications.
- Developing Standard Operational Procedures for specialised equipment.
- Conducting the civil/structural engineering tests in accordance with relevant standards, as required for academic, laboratory certification and other commercial purposes.
- Conducting laboratory demonstration for teaching and research purposes.
- Facilitating, and where relevant leading, the commissioning, maintenance and upgrading the equipment.
- Proactively advising on the laboratory and other technical requirements for the current and upcoming teaching, research and industry projects.
- Assisting with cost estimates and regular purchase of consumables, instruments and equipment for successful running of experimental projects.
- Implementing risk assessments to ensure safely running of the equipment and projects and compliance with the relevant WHS Act and Regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
A Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering is desirable. At least 3-4 years of subsequent work experience in specialist technical facilities in the college/university environment. Preferably registered with Engineers Australia.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in supporting small and large-scale and highly integrated teaching and research systems.

This full time, ongoing position attracts remuneration of $92,087 to $99,353 p.a plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
