Role Purpose

The Diesel Fitter/Mobile Plant Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of mobile plant equipment, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and availability. This role includes, not only being hands on but also leading a team of technicians, coordinating scheduled maintenance activities, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. The supervisor works closely with the operations and management teams to minimize downtime and support continuous operational efficiency. The role requires a proactive approach to equipment health, efficiency, and safety, ensuring that all activities align with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Role Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Supervision

Supervise and lead a small team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance.

Coordinate daily maintenance tasks, setting priorities, and assigning work to ensure efficiency and coverage of all necessary repairs.

Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training and development needs.

Maintain a team culture that values camaraderie and team spirit.

Maintenance Planning and Coordination

Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules through our CMMS system (Dynaway) to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.

Coordinate with operations teams to plan maintenance activities with minimal disruption to production.

Oversee breakdown maintenance and repairs, responding quickly to equipment issues to minimise downtime.

Develop and maintain supplier relationships.

Safety and Compliance

Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, following company policies.

Conduct regular safety inspections of mobile plant equipment and maintenance work areas.

Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring team adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.

Resource Management

Manage inventory levels of spare parts and tools necessary for maintenance tasks.

Liaise with suppliers and vendors to source parts and materials at optimal costs and quality.

Work alongside the Maintenance Manager to track maintenance costs, and prepare and manage budgets effectively to meet financial goals.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and repairs.

Prepare regular reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and downtime incidents.

Work alongside the Maintenance and Asset Planner to analyse data to identify recurring issues and implement solutions to improve equipment reliability.

Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with the Maintenance Team to identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reduce equipment downtime.

Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Mobile Plant Operations Team to implement key improvements that maximize machinery performance, ensuring optimal efficiency and reliability.

Key Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Requirements: Trade qualified Diesel Fitting or related field is required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mobile plant maintenance, Supervisor experience is highly desirable.

Technical Skills: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing various mobile plant equipment, including loaders up to 34t, excavators up to 50t, Moxys and trucks. Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) software is preferred.

Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage a team effectively.

Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members, other departments, and external vendors.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in outdoor environments, and occasionally lift heavy equipment or parts.

Work Schedule: Flexibility is required, as this role may involve occasional overtime and possible weekend work to address urgent maintenance needs.

Performance Metrics

Equipment Availability: Percentage of time that mobile plant equipment is operational.

Maintenance KPI’s: Equipment up/downtime, service schedule adherence and attachment condition and availability etc.

Safety Incidents: Track and record safety incidents (through Sitedocs) and document what proactive measures are taken to reduce risks onsite.

Budget Adherence: Efficient management of maintenance costs within budget constraints.

Must hold and maintain a valid drivers licence

Must hold a current Construction Induction/White Card (or willing to obtain)
