About Us Our client provides specialist family violence services to Victorian Aboriginal women and their children since 1976. We focus on culturally safe, trauma-informed support, including crisis accommodation, case management, and advocacy.

About the Role We are seeking a Therapeutic Counsellor to impacted by family violence, with a significant portion of the role based in a women’s prison. This role emphasizes empowerment, self-awareness, and strengths-based therapeutic interventions tailored to the unique needs of each woman.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based counselling (individual, family, and group).
  • Conduct initial assessments, create and monitor case plans, and ensure thorough safety plans for clients.
  • Deliver high-quality risk assessments and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date case notes and adhere to privacy requirements.
  • Advocate for clients and maintain effective relationships with partner agencies.
  • Participate in reflective practice, team meetings, and case management reviews.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, or counselling.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing trauma-informed counselling to individuals affected by family violence.
  • Ideal: Understanding of the unique challenges faced by Aboriginal women, particularly those dealing with family violence.
  • Skills: Ability to work creatively and flexibly with clients with complex needs.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of mental health, trauma, and their impact on individuals.
  • Collaboration: Experience developing and facilitating therapeutic group programs.
  • Self-Management: Capacity for reflection and self-care in a high-demand role.

Requirements

  • Current (or willingness to obtain) Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Check.
  • Valid Victorian Driver’s License.
  • Compliance with policies and procedures.
