Salary:
* Financial Counsellors: SCHADS 4.1 - 5.1 $85,412.67 - $97,712.20 + Super (11.5%)
* Senior Financial Counsellor: SCHADS 6.1 $106,755.27 + Super (11.5%)
Additional Benefits: Salary packaging + 5 weeks annual leave
Work Type: Full Time
FIFO Options: FIFO considered from Darwin or Cairns for Nhulunbuy roles only

About the Role & Client
This well-established, values-led organisation is a key provider of community services across the Northern Territory, offering financial counselling, social support, housing, and advocacy programs to vulnerable communities.
Due to program growth, they are seeking multiple Financial Counsellors across Darwin, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy, as well as a Senior Financial Counsellor to lead service delivery in Nhulunbuy.
These roles offer a chance to support individuals facing financial hardship, promote financial capability, and work alongside Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and other key stakeholders. The Senior role also includes staff mentoring and service development responsibilities.
About the Service
The team and broader financial counselling services provide free, confidential, and culturally safe support to individuals experiencing financial difficulty. Services include financial counselling, budgeting, advocacy, and community education.
Team members travel to remote communities and work in collaboration with a wide range of local service providers to create positive change and promote financial resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Counsellors (Darwin, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy)
- Provide financial counselling, assessments, and casework
- Support clients with budgeting, debt management, and advocacy
- Deliver financial literacy education
- Collaborate with local services and travel to remote communities as needed
Senior Financial Counsellor (Nhulunbuy only)
- Provide leadership and practice support to Financial Counsellors
- Offer guidance on complex casework and community engagement
- Foster partnerships and represent the organisation locally
- Contribute to service design, improvement, and reporting
Skills & Requirements
✔ Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling)
✔ Registration with a professional body (e.g., FCA)
✔ Demonstrated understanding of financial disadvantage and community advocacy
✔ Cultural competency and ability to work respectfully in Aboriginal communities
✔ Willingness to travel remotely; driver's licence essential
✔ NT Ochre Card & National Police Check (or ability to obtain)
Senior Role Additional Requirements:
✔ 5+ years in financial counselling or related fields
✔ Leadership or mentoring experience
