The Role
The EL1 role will manage ASD’s support to, and engagement with, Defence Portfolio Ministers, Parliamentary Committees and Cabinet. Successful candidates will gain a high level of visibility of the breadth of ASD’s mission, and will liaise across the organisation to support Ministers and senior leadership.
Key responsibilities for the positions:
- Continuously improve processes and expand knowledge within the Ministerial and Parliamentary and Cabinet teams and across ASD to enhance the support provided to Ministers and ASD leadership.
- Exercise discretion and excellent judgement, including the ability to action tasks within established work practices and priorities and identifying priority and sensitive tasks for escalation.
- Lead a small team to manage ASD officials’ engagement in Parliamentary processes, including Question Time, appearances before Senate Estimates and other Parliamentary Committees.
- Lead a small team responsible for coordinating timely and high quality briefing to support relevant Ministers at Cabinet meetings.
- Provide professional support and training to ASD officers in managing Ministerial, Parliamentary or Cabinet processes.
- Develop and maintain strategic awareness of ASD’s role and its linkages to policy and operational proposals from other agencies.

About our Team
The Ministerial, Media and Communications Branch provides high quality advice, briefings and awareness raising initiatives that support ASD missions. The branch is responsible for the strategic management of ASD’s public profile, identifying and developing promotional opportunities, and ensuring the quality and consistency of ASD messaging.
The Ministerial functions of the branch manage ASD’s support to, and engagement with, Minister Offices, Parliamentary Committees and Cabinet. The teams manage ASD’s appearances before Senate Estimates and other Parliamentary Committees, support for relevant Ministers at Cabinet meetings and manage written advice and briefings to Ministers, in accordance with legislative and policy frameworks.
