Easily accessible by public transport, the City includes the suburbs of Subiaco and Daglish, along with parts of Jolimont and Shenton Park. It is home to almost 18,000 people and attracts a further 20,000 workers each weekday.
Reporting to the Manager Communications and Engagement, the Senior Communications Officer – Digital is responsible for managing the City’s social media channels and developing and implementing digital communications plans that engage the community and enhance and protect the City’s reputation.
The successful candidate will be joining a strong, collaborative, supportive and friendly team in a dynamic and varied working environment. With so many things going on around the City, there’s no shortage of potential content and this role works closely with the City’s in-house Content Producer (a talented videographer and photographer).
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and will quickly build positive relationships with key stakeholders. They will keep an ear-to-the-ground and ensure events, services and projects are effectively promoted, with messaging aligned to the City’s strategic goals and direction.
Please note this is a 12-month fixed-term position that has become available whilst the incumbent is acting in a different role within the team, covering a period of parental leave.
Key responsibilities:

- Developing and executing data-informed digital communications plans to promote City events, services and projects and reflect key messages.
- Maintaining a social media content schedule that ensures a regular stream of varied content, using data to support the growth and engagement of the City’s digital following.
- Creating social media content (photo, video and written) that reflects the City’s brand and key messages.
- Working with the City’s Content Producer on creative ideation of video concepts and to schedule and co-ordinate shoots.
- Developing and publishing content across websites, e-newsletters and social media.
- Working with staff across the organisation to identify and develop content opportunities for digital channels.
- Developing and maintaining the City's website to ensure accessibility, a positive user experience and that content is current, accurate, and adheres to the City’s brand and editorial guidelines.
Please note, some after hours or occasional weekend work will be required to cover relevant City events.
Essential criteria:
Supporting the broader outcomes of the Communications and Engagement team and the City, the successful candidate will be an experienced professional who can drive social media and digital communications outcomes as part of a collaborative and positive team culture. They will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with:
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications or Marketing.
- Minimum three years’ experience in a communications role within a large, complex organisation with a significant focus on digital channels, including social media.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective digital communications plans/strategies.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Intermediate photography and videography skills to support the self-sufficient production of social media content.
- Excellent knowledge of the social media landscape and emerging trends in digital media.
- Highly proficient in the use of corporate computer systems and content management systems
- Proficient in the use of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Canva.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised and self-motivated with excellent time management skills
- Desirable: local government experience.
Salary package:
From $95,555 to $103,199 per annum plus 11.5% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation.
