An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified person to join our Communications & Marketing Team as the Senior Communications Officer.
Position Overview
The Senior Communications Officer contributes to providing communications advice, planning and services across the Council. The primary objectives of the role are to:
Facilitate effective communication between Council, residents, community groups, businesses and the media.
Support the community consultation processes initiated under Council’s Community Consultation Policy and Guidelines.
Facilitate and coordinate opportunities for the effective marketing and promotion of the Council and its associated projects, programs and services.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Team Leader Communications and Marketing, responsibilities of this role include:
Prepare, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of Communication and Marketing Plans in collaboration with content experts where necessary.
Prepare and support the development of communication plans and projects in consultation with Team Leader Communications and Marketing where required.
Assist in the development and consistent implementation of media, communications and public consultation policies, procedures and strategies.
Coordinate Social Media content to ensure its accuracy, relevance and currency.
Coordinate and contribute to the presentation and content Council’s website and intranet.
Provide leadership and coaching to team members. Foster collaboration, communication and innovation that supports the achievement of excellence.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
Drivers Licence (Essential).
A tertiary qualification in public relations, communications or relevant experience (Desirable).
IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation (Desirable).
At least 2 years’ experience in a media, communications or public relations role.
Experience with design and maintenance of a website and intranet.
Knowledge in communicating key messages through a variety of communication tools. including social media and websites.
Exceptional verbal and written communication, adaptable to various audiences and media, with good structure, flow, clear expression, correct grammar and syntax.

The position is offered as a Full time, Fixed Term contract until 24 March 2026 at General Officer Level 5 in accordance with the South Australian Municipal Salaried Officers Award and Council’s current Enterprise Agreement within an annual salary range of $93,645 - $97,770 dependent upon skills, knowledge and experience.
