About the Position
Our Sustainability Team leads the organisation’s environmental sustainability approach, collaborating with the community, government and other stakeholders to deliver programs and services which set our city up for a greener future. We take an evidence-based approach to drive the organisation’s climate change mitigation and adaption response, corporate environmental performance, and capacity building of staff and community.
The Senior Sustainability Advisor leads and implements policies, plans and projects that assist with the delivery of council’s environmental goals and objectives; sustainability performance targets, measures and reporting; supports council’s advocacy agenda on environmental issues and ensures integration of environmental sustainability across council.
About You
You will be purpose driven, people-focused and have a discerning eye for ways to make progress toward our sustainability goals. As a connector, influencer and driver, you will combine a strategic mindset with technical insight. You will also be persistent, patient and pragmatic.
With experience in developing plans and policies, you’ll have sound knowledge of sustainability practices such as climate change mitigation, risk and adaptation, energy and emissions management, water sensitive urban design, biodiversity, urban forest planning, natural resource management as well as sustainability in procurement, council assets and new urban developments - and proven experience in integrating these into practice.,.
Your action-focused and results driven approach and passion for sustainability will help you build and maintain collaborative relationships internally and externally to implement action for real change.
Key Selection Criteria:
- A tertiary qualification in environmental planning, policy, science, management or related field.
- Proven knowledge and experience in current environmental sustainability practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of environment related legislation and strategic planning principles and experience in the development and analysis of strategic plans and policy.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and programs to achieve agreed objectives.
- Excellent skills in communicating, collaborating and networking at all levels and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Understanding of the role local government can play in environmental sustainability.
- Skills in synthesising and translating scientific data, research and investigations to inform strategic planning processes and operations.
