ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a fixed-term opportunity.
You will provide a culturally appropriate, in-home practical family support service to families who are most at risk of child protection intervention.
You will assist, foster, and provide direct services to families and children to help children and young people remain within the education systems; support family members in attending counselling services and other external support services as required, increase positive life skills including supporting families to develop and maintain routines, create safe home environments and support with meal planning and cooking.
You will be positive, non-judgemental and solution focused.
Key responsibilities include;
Culturally appropriate provision of parenting skill development to all family members.
Maintain a partnership approach with Case Workers/Case Coordinators to work effectively with families, children and young people.
Assist, foster and provide direct services to families and children to:
Implement strategies to ensure the safety of their children and young people who have been identified as being at risk;
Help the children and young people to remain within the education systems;
Support family members to attend counselling services and other external support services as required;
Develop an understanding of existing, complimentary support services within their identified community;
Increase positive life skills including supporting families to develop and maintain routines, create clean and safe home environments and support on meal planning and cooking;
Provide practical assistance to families where appropriate in maintaining their accommodation and links to mainstream services as well as Aboriginal specific services; and family; and
Help implement any skills development and education programs made available to families, children and young people in the target area.
Provide practical support and encouragement, in line with the Support Plan, for families to:
Reduce family violence;
Ensure children remain safely with the family;
Reduce alcohol and substance abuse;
Increase family stability;
Maintain appropriate, safe and secure accommodation
Access suitable health services.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Relevant qualification related to position
Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities and understanding of ATSI history
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of family support including parenting skill development
Demonstrated ability to be part of a team and share knowledge and skills with others in order to deliver a quality service and achieve client outcomes
Demonstrated interpersonal and written as well as verbal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people
Demonstrated ability to provide safe environments for children and young people and protect them from abuse and neglect
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
WA Working with Children Card
Police Clearance (dated within the last 3 months)
WA Drivers Licence
Department of Communities Screening (we'll help successful candidates to apply)
