About the Role

Lockelec Rolling Stock (LRS) is seeking a Mechanical Design & Project Engineer to join our dynamic team in Braeside, Victoria. This full-time position plays a key role in the design, development, and delivery of engineering solutions for rail and transport projects. It offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to technical delivery while supporting the strategic objectives of LRS. The successful candidate will bring strong design capability, hands-on engineering experience, and project coordination skills.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver mechanical design work, including 3D modelling, 2D drafting, and BOM preparation using SolidWorks
• Apply DFA and DFM principles in all designs
• Prepare and manage manufacturing, assembly, and quality documentation
• Interpreting and implementing engineering standards, testing methods, and technical specifications
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to technical decision-making
• Support procurement, production, and quality teams during project execution
• Liaise with clients and suppliers on technical matters, under guidance from senior staff
• Assist with planning and tracking engineering deliverables within project timelines
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and documentation standards

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design and/or project engineering
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and technical drawing standards
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, mechanism design, and manufacturing techniques
• Experience with DFA and DFM principles
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering standards, specifications, and testing methods
• Experience in preparing manufacturing, assembly, and quality documentation
• Effective problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
