Relationships Australia WA (RAWA) is a leading provider of relationship support services to the West Australian community with professional and highly motivated staff. RAWA is also the lead agency for headspace Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River.

About the role

RAWA are seeking a permanent Case Worker to join the headspace South West team and work across our Busselton and Margaret River satellite sites.

The case worker position involves effectively engaging young people 12 – 25 years with the headspace service, through both practical and clinical support. The Case Worker will provide outreach, therapeutic support and case management where appropriate and, if available, provide immediate support for young people who walk into the headspace Busselton and Margaret River Satellite services.

As one of the first points of contact for young people accessing headspace services, the Case Worker will build positive rapport with a wide range of young people, as well as their family and friends. The Case Worker will be skilled in assessing a young person’s needs, and undertaking risk assessments and safety plans when necessary. The Case Worker is a part of a multidisciplinary team, including medical, mental health & allied health clinicians, community engagement workers, support staff and management. The case worker will also work closely with the local community and partner with youth and health services to provide holistic and integrated youth mental health care.

Skills, experience, and qualifications

Qualifications

Essential

Tertiary level qualifications in social work, psychology, health, or behavioural/social sciences.

Desirable

Current registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or current membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Experience

Essential

  • The ability and experience to undertake intake assessments and screening activities, including comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • The ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.
  • The ability and experience to be able to deliver brief therapeutic interventions, counselling services and treatment planning.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team assisting in the planning and coordinating of client care.
  • Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector.
  • Good understanding of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the discrimination and marginalisation in relation to young people.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of youth mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people, in particular the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to priorities and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.
  • A broad understanding of the challenges facing young people in Australia, including specific community factors relative to the local demographic.
  • Ability to relate to a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural sensitivity and cross-culture communication.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and ability to develop and deliver group based activities to assist clients’ improve psychosocial functioning (e.g. life skills, anger management, problem solving, conflict resolution, etc.).
  • A broad understanding of the mental health and primary care health system in Australia.
