Qualified Veterinary Nurse

The Australian Animal Protection Society are currently recruiting for an experienced all-rounded Veterinary Nurse to join our team in Keysborough. We have two roles to offer parttime and full time available. Immediate start available.

Our clinic serves both our shelter and the community through our outpatient clinic, caring for small animal and exotics (rabbits and guinea pigs).

Due to our ever-growing team, we are currently looking for an experienced Cert IV nurse. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced and busy clinic and surgery environment, as part of a team that strive for the highest quality care for each animal that comes through our doors. This position will suit a nurse that is also interested in further learning, growth and upskilling.

Our experienced nurses are competent in placing IV catheters, performing venupuncture, intubating at time of induction, performing general and dental radiographs. Due to the shelter, we also manage a number of interesting medical cases.

This position has the flexibility to work either Full-time or Part-Time for the right candidate, with a choice of an 8 or 10 hour day.

Nurses are rostered in a variety of roles including surgery, recovery and consulting.

Empathy, compassion and communication are the main characteristics you will need to excel in this job. Our vet team are a highly skilled group of professionals who love what they do and the animals they care for.

Experience and skills required to succeed in this role:

  • Cert IV Veterinary Nursing – (Essential)
  • Must be competent monitoring anaesthetics due to high surgery workload
  • Experience in animal welfare/shelter nursing would be highly regarded, but not essential.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with compassion and care
  • Previous nursing experience – 2+ years preferred
  • A positive attitude and the willingness to go the extra mile for your patients is a must

What we can offer you:

  • Varied workload; medical and surgical, shelter work
  • Ongoing education and capacity to upskill
  • Less animal attendant jobs due to large bank of volunteers that help in shelter
  • The most rewarding job of your career in a no-kill shelter and not for profit clinic and the chance to make a real difference to the community
  • Staff benefits

If you have amazing nursing skills and are looking to make the move to an exciting and ever growing clinic, please apply by sending your resume and cover letter to Head Nurse Lisa Peck at [email protected].
