About the Role
The Plant Biosecurity Officer Field Surveillance will play a crucial part in supporting the coordination and delivery of plant biosecurity surveillance operations within the Sydney basin. Our mission is to ensure early detection, support area freedom, and deliver effective emergency response in the event of an exotic plant pest detection. This position will provide a collaborative link between NSW DPI and Local Land Services to safeguard NSW primary industries, the environment, and the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct field surveillance activities aligned with the National Plant Health Surveillance Program and other priority projects.
- Identify opportunities and foster engagement for plant biosecurity surveillance collaboration across plant industries and community groups in urban and peri-urban areas.
- Manage and ensure accurate collection and reporting of plant biosecurity surveillance data.
- Develop and maintain operational plans, supporting documents, and resources necessary for successful field surveillance operations.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of training programs to support plant biosecurity surveillance efforts in NSW.
- Undertake internal and external training to effectively respond to emergency plant pest incursions and contribute to the operational aspects of biosecurity responses.
About you
We’re looking for someone with:
Key knowledge and experience
✔️ Demonstrated understanding of plant biosecurity and plant pest and disease surveillance and preferably experience in field surveillance operations.
✔️ Experience in identification, assessment and treatment of risks, including work, health and safety.
✔️ Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
✔️ Strong stakeholder engagement skills to build partnerships across industries and communities.
✔️ A proactive and adaptable approach to managing priorities and challenges.
Essential requirements
📜 Willingness to complete required training to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW)
🚗 Current NSW Driver’s License and a willingness to travel
