Are you an experienced editor with a passion for STEM education and career pathways? Refraction Media, the award-winning publisher of Careers with STEM, is looking for a Deputy Editor to oversee content production across print and digital platforms.
This is a six-month, part-time (3 days per week, but can also be spread over 4 days) contract covering parental leave. The role is fully remote but highly collaborative, with regular virtual check-ins and opportunities to connect with the team. We're looking to fill this role quickly as the position starts in late April.
About the Role
As Deputy Editor, you will play a key role in shaping Careers with STEM’s editorial content across magazines, digital platforms, and advertising campaigns. You’ll be responsible for writing, editing, coordinating content, and overseeing digital projects to ensure high-quality, engaging storytelling that inspires students to pursue STEM careers.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial & Print
- Write and coordinate Job Kits, magazine articles, and posters.
- Oversee and contribute to magazine content, ensuring alignment with editorial themes.
- Proofread and edit content to maintain high editorial standards.
- Assist in developing sales and promotional materials using InDesign and Canva (e.g., flyers, webinar assets, media kits).
Digital & Advertising
- Manage Google Ads and Google Display Ads campaigns.
- Oversee digital client campaigns, ensuring content meets client and audience needs.
- Upload magazine content to the Careers with STEM website.
- Write original website content, ensuring SEO best practices.
- Add products to the website and Issuu.
- Track Google Ads performance, newsletter metrics, and digital product stats for production meetings.
About You
- 3+ years of experience in journalism, editing, content marketing, or digital publishing.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience with Google Ads or digital marketing.
- Familiarity with InDesign and a keen eye for layout and design.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain high editorial standards.
- Comfortable working remotely while staying engaged with a collaborative virtual team.
