About the Company/Role:
Our client is an Australian technology company focused on the commercialisation of innovative laser enrichment technologies for applications including Uranium enrichment (green power generation), Silicon-28 enrichment (Quantum computing) and medical isotope enrichment (emerging radiopharmaceutical therapies). The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for working with the mechanical team in the development, design, and engineering analysis of in-house constructed enrichment process and plant equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Consult with the senior technical team regarding engineering and technical decisions
• Provide technical advice to the General Manager – Operations and Project Managers on resourcing, scheduling, budgeting, and staffing requirement.
• Provide oversight of detailed mechanical designs for various projects.
• Work closely with the General Manager – Operations on the progress of assigned projects (potential mechanical construction risks and delays).
• Assisting the General Manager – Operations in developing & implementing new engineering design initiatives.
• Conduct engineering assessments and validations on regulated in-house built and procured equipment.
• Focus on continued engineering development and scaling of the company’s current and future enrichment technologies.
• Implementation and administration of QA/QC strategies.
• Managing activities with mechanical contractors and external workshops.
• Managing overall procurement activities for assigned projects, in support of mechanical build efforts and deliverables.

Our client requires Australian Citizenship and an ability to obtain and maintain an Australian national security clearance.

Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
• Australian Citizenship required
• Experience in a comparable technical/engineering role with project management knowledge
• Experience in commercial manufacturing and new product development
• Experience in vacuum systems, cryogenics, high voltage systems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with a collaborative working style
• Ability to identify and execute key project tasks through to completion with continuous improvement focus
• Commercially astute with the ability to identify technical & resourcing risks
• Implement mitigation methods, with the ability to anticipate potential problems and contribute to identifying innovative solutions.
• Experience with mechanical design - understand & interpret complex technical designs
• Demonstrated experience in 3D CAD design using SolidWorks
