The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for overseeing financial transactions, ensuring the timely collection of receivables, managing payables, processing fortnightly payroll and preparing financial forecasts. This role also involves compliance-related tasks such as BAS preparation and financial reporting to support decision-making.

The Impact You Will Make in the Role

As the Senior Accounts Officer, you will work closely with the CFO taking the lead of the organisation's financial operations in this standalone role. You will be responsible for managing end-to-end financial functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial sustainability.

Your expertise will drive budgeting, payroll, financial reporting, and funding compliance, providing strategic financial advice that enhances decision-making at both operational and leadership levels. By translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights, you will empower their leadership and service teams to make informed financial decisions that sustain and expand the organisation’s impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of weekly accounts payable and accounts receivable. This includes checking GST, ABN and correct cost centre and account allocations
  • Lead the process of the payment of fortnightly payroll
  • Prepare all month-end tasks, including all journal preparations, balance sheet reconciliation, grant reconciliation, and liquidity analysis
  • Handle end-to-end credit card reconciliations, including review, working with credit card holders to ensure correct supporting is maintained for the acquittal and posting to Xero
  • Lead, chair and minute monthly Finance meetings with Service Managers
  • Lodge monthly PAYG and quarterly BAS returns to ATO
  • Coordinate the annual financial audit
  • Lead the preparation of annual accountabilities to funding bodies

To Succeed in This Role, You Will Have:

  • Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
  • Experience in BAS preparation and compliance with Australian tax laws.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks).
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must have Australian working rights, national police checks and Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
