The Role

As a Software Engineer at Gelomics, you will play a pivotal role in building and scaling the Gelomics cloud platform. In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, you will be responsible for developing and deploying cloud infrastructure, machine learning and AI models, and user-centric applications enabling scientists worldwide to plan, execute, and analyse experiments seamlessly.

Key responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure Development: Develop and maintain a scalable and secure cloud environment tailored for high-performance biomedical applications and machine learning workflows.
  • AI/ML Model Development: Develop and optimise machine learning models leveraging experimental data to enhance predictive analytics and decision-making capabilities.
  • User Application Development: Design and implement intuitive web-based applications allowing end-users to efficiently plan, execute, and analyse biomedical experiments.
  • Data Pipelines and Integration: Establish robust and efficient data pipelines ensuring seamless integration and real-time processing of experimental data.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance: Implement robust cybersecurity measures and data protection frameworks compliant with global data privacy regulations, such as ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, and 27701.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly refine software based on user feedback, real-time performance metrics, and emerging technological advancements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and provide regular updates on development milestones and outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal multidisciplinary teams including hardware engineers, scientists, quality management, and external consultants to ensure cohesive product integration.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Required Experience: Proven track record in cloud infrastructure development, machine learning implementation, and application development (frontend and backend). Experience in biotech or life sciences industries is preferred but not essential.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or other relevant programming languages; familiarity with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP), machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and web application frameworks (e.g., React, Angular).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to handle complex datasets, and capability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly document and communicate complex processes and systems.
  • Motivation: Self-driven, results-oriented, capable of managing projects independently while collaboratively engaging with diverse teams.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000 + Superannuation.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Gelomics Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP).
