About the Role
The Governance Manager will be responsible for ensuring high standards of governance and compliance within GAC. This role plays a key part in aligning decisions with Gumala’s governance framework, statutory obligations, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership, guide governance processes, and maintain a culture of accountability and transparency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee governance frameworks to ensure alignment with the CATSI Act and other statutory requirements.
  • Provide strategic advice on governance matters to the Board and Executive Team.
  • Develop, review, and implement governance policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct research and prepare high-level reports on governance and compliance issues.
  • Ensure the accurate interpretation and application of legislative and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and assess governance risks, implementing mitigation strategies as required.
  • Lead governance training and capacity-building initiatives for Board members and senior staff.
  • Support the coordination and management of Board meetings, including agenda preparation and minute-taking.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the organisation.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive experience in a similar role (preferably within an Aboriginal Corporation).
  • Proven experience in senior management and leadership, with the ability to mentor and motivate teams.
  • Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory governance requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the CATSI Act and its application.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and alignment with Aboriginal cultural values.
  • Exceptional research and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislative documents and provide strategic insights.
