  • It is a Specialist Level 1 position, with a salary range of $69,103- $102,332, depending on experience, plus 13% superannuation.

The Industrial Officer (Research) will undertake industrial research to identify both barriers to, and enablers of, gender equality in men-dominated industries in Western Australia as part of the WA Workplace Gender Equality Project. Informed by the project’s research findings, they will draft model clauses, policies and procedures, and contribute to developing education and other practical resources that support workplace gender equality.

This is a grant-funded position established under the Advancing Gender Equality in Gender Segregated Industries Commonwealth Government grant which will examine the drivers of gender segregation as they manifest in men-dominated industries in Western Australia.

THE ROLE WILL

  • Research, interpret and evaluate policies, procedures, industrial instruments and legislation.
  • Undertake other research activities associated with the project (e.g. data collection) under the guidance of the Research Lead.
  • Formulate industrial advice relevant to the project as required.
  • Draft model clauses, policies and procedures, informed by the research findings and recommendations.
  • Contribute to developing education and other practical resources, informed by the research findings and recommendations.
  • Contribute to successful project management by completing assigned work at the required level and within agreed timeframes.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Knowledge of Federal and State Industrial Relations systems
  • Ability to interpret and analyse legislation, industrial instruments, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to draft industrial instrument clauses, policies and procedures.
  • Sound investigative and research skills.
  • Well-developed verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed planning, problem-solving and organizational skills with an ability to prioritise multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously while displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues and stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Commitment to the principles of unionism and gender equality.

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. industrial relations, human resource management and/or law).
  • Experience as an industrial officer or researcher
