Talent International is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer (Grade 14-16) to work for a Local Government client based in Oran Park. This is a 4-month contract with the view to be extended. The role pays between $55/hr to $70/hr + Super.
7 hours per day / 35 hours per week
Duties would include:
- Undertake food premises inspections utilising the FPAR
- Communicate with retail food premise proprietors, providing a high level of customer service
- Issue correspondence including - FPAR, educational letters/materials, Improvement Notices and other regulatory reports and correspondence as needed.
- Undertake inspections of beauty salons/skin penetration premises
- Assist wider EHO team as required
- Strong customer services skills and ability to negotiate with key stakeholders, utilising an educative approach and escalation to regulation as circumstances require would be desirable.

Special Requirements:
- Current Driver's License
- Prepared to be on-call outside of normal office hours
- Ability to undertake inspections outside of normal office hours
Essential Skills:
- Local Government Act
- Protection of the Environment Operations Act
- Food Act
- Public Health Act
- Contaminated Lands Management Act
- All other relevant legislation and standards currently in use by local government EHO's
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant science, applied science or similar degree, with previous experience in an environmental health role
- A sound working knowledge and expertise in the application and administration of current Acts and associated Regulations as they relate to the environment and public health
- Experience in inspection and regulation of regulated premises
- Experience in investigating and resolving complaints relating to air, water, noise, land, on-site sewage management systems and public health issues
- Ability to make sound judgements and interpretations based on analysis of information and complex situations
- Sound organisation and time management skills
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with demonstrated conflict-resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate computer systems and database systems
- Proven ability to work in multi-disciplined teams.
Desirable Skills:
- Postgraduate qualifications in environmental science or management, or a related discipline.
- The ability to solve problems using research, analysis and evaluation of information which is often not readily available.
- Experience in approvals, inspection and regulation of on-site sewage management facilities
- Possess a broad understanding and knowledge of environment and health issues as they pertain to local government with a strong environmental ethic with a strong desire to educate others.
