Role Overview

Reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance, this role is pivotal in leading & shaping the compliance function of a dynamic and growing Financial Services organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role in the non-bank lending sector, ensuring the business adheres to the highest regulatory, legal, and ethical standards in a broad role working with excellent and highly regarded leadership.

You will play a pivotal role in driving the compliance culture acting as a key advisor to senior management & the Board. You will oversee the development and implementation of compliance frameworks, manage regulatory obligations, and provide expert guidance on compliance matters across the organisation.

Responsibilities include

  • Lead the compliance function with a strategic and hands-on approach, ensuring policies, procedures, and controls effectively mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain effective compliance frameworks that meet the requirements of the Australian Credit Licence, Australian Financial Services Licence, and relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Manage and update obligations register to ensure accurate monitoring, accountability, and alignment with evolving regulations.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders, delivering insights that support balanced decision-making and preparing detailed compliance reports for executive review.
  • Manage compliance reviews and guide remedial actions to completion.
  • Promote a proactive compliance culture through tailored training programs and by embedding accountability across all levels.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of compliance incidents, driving continuous improvements to minimise future issues.

Desired experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, or a related discipline, or a diploma in Financial Services Regulation.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in compliance roles within the financial services sector, preference for candidates familiar with non-bank or lending environments.
  • A solid understanding of relevant regulations, including the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, and experience developing compliance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage at all levels of an organisation, offering clear advice and building relationships with internal stakeholders, senior management, and regulatory bodies.
  • Expertise in risk management tools and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring
  • An eye for detail, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced industry.
  • Calm and professional nature, collaborative, high attention to detail, highly developed written, presentational, and communication skills.
