About the role
Our client, a leading global bank, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Compliance and Legal Manager to join their team in Sydney. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the organization’s adherence to all relevant regulations and laws, providing expert guidance to navigate the complex legal and regulatory landscape. Your contributions will be critical in safeguarding the company’s interests and maintaining its reputation as a compliant and trusted financial institution.
What you'll be doing
1. Compliance Function
- Facilitate translation and dissemination of head office reports, notices, and inquiries.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports to senior management, the Risk Committee, and regulatory authorities.
- Deliver compliance and legal training, including induction programs for new staff.
- Review and update policies, procedures, and compliance registers to ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
- Support compliance monitoring activities and manage audit documentation requests.
- Assist in developing and implementing compliance, monitoring, and training plans.
- Lead strategic projects as directed by senior management and perform additional duties as required.
2. AML/CTF and Sanctions Function
- Provide guidance and risk-based solutions on AML/CTF and sanctions policies to frontline departments.
- Conduct financial crime investigations, including Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD) and Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs).
- Deliver targeted AML/CTF and sanctions training to staff.
- Perform in-depth research on evolving AML/CTF regulatory requirements.
3. Legal Function
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with third-party service providers, customers, and counterparties.
- Conduct legal research and manage relationships with external law firms.
- Advise stakeholders on changes to the legal and regulatory landscape impacting the organization.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian financial services laws, licensing requirements, APRA Prudential Standards, and AML regulations.
- Proficiency in translating accurately between English and Mandarin.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Confidence in engaging with peers and management effectively.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to handle diverse tasks.
- Hold a current Australian practicing certificate.
- Familiarity with overseas financial services laws and regulations, particularly Chinese regulations.
