Pennant Hills BASC – Educational leader & Assistant Director

Pennant Hills Before & After School Care (OSHC) is seeking a passionate Educational Leader & Assistant Director to work alongside our Centre Director. You’ll play a key role in leading the implementation of our educational program and supporting our dedicated team of educators.

Our service caters for up to 200 children during term time and school holidays. You will be instrumental in ensuring we meet the standards and elements of Quality Area 1 under the National Quality Framework.

The Director currently reports to a volunteer Parent Management Committee (PMC), with the transition to P&C underway. In this role, you will work closely with the Director and team of Senior Educators to ensure high standards of compliance with the National Quality Framework and deliver a dynamic and inclusive program for all children.

The position:

  • Full time, 38 hours per week
  • Above award rate for the right candidate
  • Approximately 15-18 hours face to face with remaining hours used for administration, meetings, etc.

Responsibilities as Educational Leader

  1. Provide pedagogical leadership to a team of educators, ensuring quality care and education aligned with My Time, Our Place and the National Quality Framework.
  2. Mentor and support educators through regular feedback, observations, and reflective discussions, focusing on critical reflection to inform practice.
  3. Lead the planning, documentation, and evaluation of an inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate educational program.
  4. Oversee the implementation and documentation of the program, promoting continuous improvement in the quality of care and the experiences provided to children and families.
  5. Support the performance management of educators, particularly in relation to the educational program.
  6. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Quality Improvement Plan, ensuring progress towards exceeding the National Quality Framework, with a focus on Quality Area 1.

Responsibilities as Assistant Director

  1. Support the Director in leading educators to work as an effective team to create a safe, inclusive and engaging environment.
  2. Act as a Responsible Person, ensuring the service operates smoothly and complies with legislation, regulation and policy.
  3. Assist in managing daily operations, including rostering, staff supervision, and communication with families and assist with daily bookings and emails.
  4. Respond to inquiries with accurate information maintaining a positive image of the service.
  5. Attend Management Committee and/or Association meetings as requested.
  6. Promote high standards of care for children in alignment with the National Quality Standard.
  7. Support the diverse contributions of staff, fostering an inclusive team culture.
  8. Manage day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director

Essential Criteria:

  1. Passion for pedagogical leadership and commitment to the continuous improvement of educational programs
  2. Current working with Children Check
  3. Current First Aid Certificate including Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management and completion of an approved Child Protection Course.
  4. Prior experience in an OSHC leadership role and Diploma of School Age Education and Care or equivalent level qualification in children’s services (desirable)
  5. Working knowledge of the My Time Our Place Framework and educators guide
  6. Sound understanding of the National Quality Standard and National Framework
  7. Professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
