The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Policy Team’s role is to work collaboratively across our organisation and the IUIH Network in strategic policy development, implementation and review, including working with key government and non-government stakeholders to advocate for and to drive system reform and growth of the IUIH Network to support IUIH’s vision and purpose.
About the Role?
Working closely with the Policy Team Manager you will lead and contribute to the development of timely and high-quality strategic advice and policy and funding submissions aligned with IUIH’s strategic goals. You will work collaborative across IUIH and the IUIH Network and with strategic partners and stakeholders across the health, social services and other sectors.
Day to Day Duties Include:
- Support the IUIH Executive Leadership Team and Policy Team Manager as required on strategic policy matters.
- Assist IUIH and IUIH Network Organisations to secure funding for our broad range of services and our strategic priorities, by coordinating and writing high-quality funding submission and tenders.
- Provide advice on Government advocacy, networking and engagement strategies for IUIH and the IUIH Network, including by coordinating and writing high-quality policy submissions.
- Maintain strategic relationships with Commonwealth and State Government departments, Primary Health Networks, Health and Hospital Services, peak bodies, other community-controlled organisations and non-government stakeholders.
- Develop correspondence, strategic policies, plans, program frameworks and strategies aligned with IUIH’s Strategic Plan.
- Contribute to the development of the IUIH Strategic Plan, the, IUIH annual Action Plan, the IUIH Annual Report and other corporate documents.
- Provide secretariat and project support to IUIH and IUIH Network governance committees and other governance forums as required.
- When representing quantitative and qualitative IUIH data and information, ensure the accuracy and integrity of the information and, where necessary, ensure information is deidentified and appropriate approvals/consent for sharing of information has been obtained.
About You?
- Work in ways which are ethically, culturally and respectfully propa, fostering integrity in conduct and actions, and aligned with the values of IUIH.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy environment in Queensland and at the national level.
- Demonstrated understanding of government funding processes and policy cycles, understanding of the machinery of government.
- Extensive experience in similar policy or research roles in the areas of health, social services, public policy, or political science.
- Highly developed policy research, development and critical analysis skills, including the ability to analyse and interpret data.
- Current criminal history check (or willing to obtain)
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
