The Company – Ningaloo Reef Adventure Camps

For over 20 years, our client has been operating a specialised camp in Coral Bay, catering for primary and secondary school students as well as university groups. The camps focus on creating a fun, safe, and challenging camp itinerary for students, offering a wide range of camp programs and activities that are based around educational eco-adventures on the Ningaloo Reef.

The camp operates from April to December each year. Camps generally run for around 3 to 7 days, accommodating groups of 10 to 100 guests.

Coral Bay

Coral Bay is a small tourist node/remote settlement in North Western Australia. The closest town being Exmouth 150 km away. It is home to around 250 locals and can currently house up to 2500 tourists.

Camp Facilities

Guests are accommodated in large ‘Army Style’ tents with about 4 to 6 guests per tent where the camp can accommodate up to 100 students (usually 30 to 50). The facility has a commercial kitchen a large covered common area used for all meals and activities as well as male and female toilet and shower blocks.

The Camp Supervisors - Accommodation, Utilities & Food

The Camp Supervisor is required to reside in Coral Bay throughout the duration of the camp season, where accommodation, meals and utility expenses are part of the renumeration while the camps are in operation.

The accommodation is a new portable which has separate bedroom, living area, kitchen, large bathroom, laundry and air conditioning.

Part of the employment package includes;

Camp Supervisor - Responsibilities

As the Camp Supervisor, you will be working closely with the Camp Utility (Your Partner) and the Camp Manager in all facets of the camp operation. The role is very “hands on” where team work and a positive, can-do attitude is essential.

The responsibilities of the Camp Coordinator include;

• Interacting, directing & assisting with camp guests (teachers, parents & students) individually as well as in a group environment
• Insuring that all guests adhere to the camps systems, policies, procedures and rules
• Coordinating and liaising with 3rd party tour operators for camp activities
• Running and participating in camp activities, such as snorkelling trails and beach games
• Administration support such as accounts, customer service, sales inquiries and general administration
• Enforcing camp rules and regulations for all guests
• End of camp clean up & preparation for the arrival of new camp guests
• Assisting in food preparation of camp meals which include breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  

Your working hours and days will fluctuate depending upon the duration of camps and participant numbers. A typical day may see you working 8 to 10 hours where on occasions with the larger camps you may do a 12 hour day. Most days you will start around 6:30 AM in the morning, with a 2-hour break either in the morning or afternoon and then finishing up at approximately 7:00 PM. You will be working 5 days per week, usually having two consecutive days off during the week.

Camp Supervisor - Working with Children

As the camp accommodates mainly primary and secondary aged students, experience with working with large groups of children is desired, although not mandatory. On a daily basis you will require the confidence and know how in coordinating, directing and speaking to large groups of children.

Being familiar with or having the confidence to learn quickly how children and teenagers interact in large groups and the strategies deployed in their management such as gaining their trust and respect in order to be an effective leader is a skill that we are seeking.

Please Note: A current Australian Working with Children Check (WWC) is mandatory to be successful for the role.

Camp Supervisor - Passion for the ocean, water safety and physical fitness

On a daily basis you will be getting into the ocean and managing large groups of children and teenagers in activities such as snorkelling. This requires physical fitness, stamina, ocean awareness and safety.

Our client has specifically requested that we seek an individual that has a passion for the ocean, ideally with a good knowledge of ocean safety or surf lifesaving. The successful applicant will possess or be able to pass a Community Surf Rescue surf lifesaving certificate as well as possessing a up to date and valid Senior First Aid certificate.

As you will be working with and leading impressionable audiences, its important you are committed to modelling your own general health and fitness ideals.

The Candidate – Camp Supervisor

We are seeking an energetic, positive and versatile candidate that ideally has had experience as a Camp Coordinator or in a similar role in either student camps or adventure tours (preferably water related) with at least 2 years of experience.

Ideally, we are seeking a university qualified teacher that possess either;

• Bachelors in Education: Physical Education (At least 1 year experience)
• Bachelors in Education: School Teaching (At Least 1 year experience)
• Camp Coordinator: At least 2 years experience

Essential Criteria Include;

• Possessing a Working with Children Clearance
• Possessing a Police Clearance
• Possessing a SLSA Community Surf Rescue Certificate
• Can commit to living and working in Coral Bay 9 to 10 months of the year (March to December)
• Be physically fit and a very strong swimmer with the ability to pass a “Community Surf Rescue” surf lifesaving certificate
• Have a valid / up to date Senior First Aid certificate
• Have a passion for the ocean and water activities with a good knowledge of ocean hazards and safety
• Be an enthusiastic and positive individual that enjoys working with, leading and contributing positively to children, teenagers and adults
• Have confidence in interacting and directing large groups of up to 100 people
• Be physically fit, having the ability to keep up with a cohort of energised children or teenagers
• Have a current “C” class drivers licence

Remuneration

Initially working through Staff-Net on a casual basis for 3 to 6 months which will allow management to assess the Camp Supervisors work performance where a permanent salary package will be offered if the Camp Supervisor meets all requirements.

Depending on your experience, skills and attributes the pay range for this role is;

• $45.00 to $55.00 Per Hour (Flat)
