About the role:

As the Team Leader you will be responsible for providing specialist/technical advice to the Department's Executive, mining sector, general public and industry organisations in relation to mining environmental regulation, providing supervision to a team of environmental officers and coordinating assessments, inspections and performance monitoring of mining projects for compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.

Additionally, this role also involves on implementing and engaging best practice environmental regulation, including driving continuous improvement, change management approaches, providing contribution to the implementation of best practice standards and achievement of the Divisional Plan, leading and managing a team of Environmental Officers who undertake assessments of mining proposals, mine closure plans, exploration proposals, compliance assessments, inspections and investigations of mining projects and managing internal governance measures ensuring compliance with reporting standards and protocols and risk management requirements related to assessments, audits, inspections and approvals.

The Role:

• Provides specialist/technical advice to the Department's Executive, mining sector, general public and industry organisations relating to the environmental assessment and regulation of mining under the Mining Act 1978, and interactions with the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and other key legislation.
• As an inspector administers provisions of environmental legislative and regulatory requirements across the mining sector.
• Drives and champions the implementation and engagement of best practice environmental regulation, including driving continuous improvement and change management approaches.
• Contributes to the implementation of best practice standards and achievement of the Divisional Plan.
• Leads and manages a team of Environmental Officers who undertake assessments of mining proposals, mine closure plans, exploration proposals, compliance assessments, inspections and investigations of mining projects.
• Develops and manages internal governance measures to ensure compliance with reporting standards and protocols and risk management requirements related to assessments, audits, inspections and approvals.
• Undertakes assessments, inspections and performance monitoring of mining projects for compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
• Prepares and reviews professional reports on the assessments, inspections and monitoring activities mentioned above.
• Undertakes and coordinates enforcement activities aligned with the Department's procedures and policies.
• Responds to requests for complex regulatory and technical information; initiates and responds to correspondence; prepares documentation to provide transparency of environmental approval processes.

• Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
• Medical Check
• Current Western Australian C or C-A class drivers licence or equivalent
