About The Role

As the Team Leader Mining North, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for the management of compliance and enforcement activities across the resource sector. Drawing on your expertise in environmental matters, you will play a vital role in providing specialist and technical advice to support the Department's Executive, Resources Sector, Public and Industry Organisations. Your guidance will be essential in navigating complex environmental regulations and ensuring compliance with Mining Act 1978, and other related environmental legislation, while successfully meeting the goals/objectives of the Resource and Environmental Compliance Division.

Your leadership skills and experience in managing a team will be key to your success in this role.

You will bring to the role your skill/experience in preparing and reviewing reports on the assessments, inspections and monitoring activities.

The Role:

  • Provides specialist/technical advice to the Department's Executive, resources sector, general public and industry organisations applying to environmental matters under the Mining Act 1978 and other relevant legislation.
  • Leads and manages a team of Environmental Officers who undertake assessments of mining proposals, mine closure plans, exploration proposals, compliance assessments, inspections and investigations of mining projects.
  • Prepares and reviews reports on the assessments, inspections and monitoring activities mentioned above.
  • As an inspector, administers provisions of environmental legislative and regulatory requirements across the resources sector.
  • Drives and champions the implementation and engagement of best practice environmental regulation, including driving continuous improvement and change management approaches.
  • Contributes to the implementation of best practice standards and achievement of the Divisional Plan.
  • Develops and manages internal governance measures to ensure compliance with reporting standards and protocols and risk management requirements related to assessments, inspections and approvals.
  • Undertakes and coordinates enforcement activities aligned with the Department's procedures and policies.
  • Responds to requests for complex regulatory and technical information; initiates and responds to correspondence; prepares documentation to provide transparency of environmental approval processes.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science, Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management Degree or an approved equivalent scientific degree appropriate for the role/responsibilities described in this Job Description Form.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in environmental management and regulation, preferably in the resources sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, particularly in relation to building and optimising people's capabilities and developing motivated and cohesive work teams.
