The Opportunity

We now have a position for a Senior Research Fellow independently undertake research within the ORIGINS cohort, develop successful funding applications, and submit research papers for publication.

ORIGINS is the largest study of its kind in Australia and aims to follow 10,000 families over a decade collecting biological samples, routine data and web-based questionnaires to help discover the causes of non-communicable diseases and improve child and adult health.

Reporting to our Project Manager and closely working with the broader ORIGINS Team, you will play a critical role by also providing support for and liaising with ORIGINS researchers and stakeholders and supervising and supporting higher degree students.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Design, manage and conduct research that investigates the epidemiology of health and developmental diseases.
  • Perform high-quality statistical analysis and liaise with biostatistician if necessary.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and seek opportunities for grants for new studies.
  • Write research publications and submit to high impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues at research seminars and meetings.
  • Provide supervision to ORIGINS junior research staff and students (Masters, PhDs and MDs).

Conveniently located in our modern offices at Perth’s Children’s Hospital this role will be offered on a full-time basis for 3 years. Some travel to our Joondalup site may be required.

About You

This position would suit someone who has a PhD in a relevant field (nutrition, psychology, epidemiology, public health). The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience, post PhD, in undertaking epidemiological research.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child health and development.
  • Evidence of publications and generation of grant funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals, develop priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Previous supervision of higher degree by research students (including PhD candidates) to completion.
