The Role
Your role is to undertake financial analysis in support of finance business partnering for Defence’s Enabling Groups, which sits within the Financial Performance and Management (FP&M) Division of Defence Finance Group (DFG).
DFG leads financial operations, management and performance across Defence delivering financial strategies, management and business partnering services. FP&M Division provides client facing finance partners across the country working closely with Groups and Services to deliver management accounting, advice and support.
We are seeking to fill various APS 5 vacancies within FP&M Division, to support the following Enabling Groups of Defence:
- Associate Secretary Group provides and integrates essential strategic, legal and enabling support services to the Defence Enterprise. This includes the integration of enabling services such as data, enterprise and business transformation, legal and audit;
- Defence Finance Group is responsible for supporting Defence through trusted financial advice and services;
- Governance Group oversees the ministerial, parliamentary and Cabinet processes, as well as strategic and internal communications and media functions;
- Defence People Group - People Strategy Organisation is responsible for delivering human resource outcomes across the Defence employment cycle from strategy and policy development, through to implementation and service delivery. Military Personnel Organisation takes carriage of ADF personnel from recruitment, throughout their career and on transition from Defence;
- Security and Estate Group (SEG) develops and sustains the Defence Estate and is the consolidated security and service delivery organisation for Defence. SEG design and deliver Defence infrastructure and manage the complex Defence Estate, which is the largest landholding in the Commonwealth; and
- Defence Digital Group are laser focussed on shaping the Defence ICT of the future - capitalising on best in class global platforms supported by best in class sovereign capabilities.
As an APS 5 Financial Analyst in Enabling Group Branch you will combine your passion for finance with your stakeholder engagement skills. You will:
- Have an ability to analyse and interpret financial information, and be able to explain your findings to those with a non-financial background.
- Undertake budget and management reporting, as well as assisting stakeholders to undertake financial tasks.
- Work with others across the Group to understand issues, analyse financial results and communicate your findings to support enterprise wide decision making.

The Enabling Groups Branch is within the FP&M Division which is responsible for delivering financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, and sustainment and operating budgets.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have commenced a career in accounting/finance in the private or public sectors with a range of skills transferable to Defence, including strong Microsoft Office skills with a particular focus on Excel. You will have strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities, and are naturally suited to explaining financial information to a broad range of stakeholders. You enjoy learning about the people and business areas you support, and like to help your clients solve problems.
You possess a positive “can-do” attitude along with great attention to detail and organisation. You take initiative and are able to operate under limited direction. You have a willingness to learn, an excellent work ethic and strong resolution skills. You cope well with change and are excited to contribute to ongoing process improvement.

Defence specific training will be provided to the successful candidate to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to undertake the role effectively.
